From the book I’m writing, Compassionate Recovery: a new paradigm for healing
In Shamanism we call upon the elements and spirits of the mountains, forests, and oceans. We take energy from the sun and honor the moon and find sustainment on the Earth. This practice is similar to the Peruvian Feeding the Rights ritual which, in principle is bringing the Fire element of the sun into our energy body as nourishment and purification to the healing initiations we have received. We can do a version of that which also incorporates elements some other esoteric practices in Angel Magick and a little bit of yoga.
If it’s possible, stand under sunlight. Take a few slow, deep breaths. Create the sense of doing a spiritual practice. If you know Mountain Pose, you can do that here. If there’s no sun where you are, try to find the place in the sky where the sun would be, even if it’s overcast. You can also do this practice mentally, inside or at night. Just imagine the feeling of the brilliant, warm sun.
Put your hands up over your head, look up (but don’t look directly into the sun). Open your arms wider, lean up and back to open your heart towards the sun. Draw your hands together overhead and pull the warmth, power, and light of the sun on the top of your head and down your body. Imagine the sun’s light entering your body and spreading out through your finger tips into the Earth.
Stand with your palms open toward the Earth and imagine drawing energy up from the Earth as you bring your palms back up to your heart center and bring the light and power of the Earth and Sun into your heart space. Put your palms together and heart center. Imagine containing the fire element of the sun between your palms. That light goes into your body and fills it up, emanating out from your heart back out into the universe. Bright. Glowing. Alive.
Pause for just a moment to feel strong and grounded. Take a few more slow, deep breaths. Allow the images and feelings that you just created to linger or dissipate naturally.
